Tesla Returns to the Detroit Auto Show: What to Expect in 2023

by Lucky LI on Sep 07, 2023

After a considerable absence, Tesla is gearing up to make a comeback at the prestigious Detroit Auto Show, as confirmed in a recent press release.

The Detroit Auto Show holds a special place in the United States' automotive landscape, but Tesla had been notably absent from the event since 2015. Back then, the company was selling around 50,000 vehicles annually, and the eagerly anticipated Model 3 had yet to be unveiled. Fast forward to today, and Tesla is a vastly different entity, making its upcoming appearance at the show all the more significant.

Scheduled from September 13 to 24, the 2023 Detroit Auto Show will take place at the Huntington Place in Detroit. In a notable development, Tesla will join the likes of BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, and Volkswagen in showcasing their electric vehicles on the "Powering Michigan EV Experience" indoor track ride-along activation, as highlighted in the press release.

Moreover, both Tesla and Ford are set to offer street course ride-and-drives for attendees just outside Huntington Place. This means visitors will have the chance to take select products for a spin along portions of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix downtown race circuit.

As for Tesla's lineup at the event, that remains a tantalizing mystery. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Cybertruck making an appearance, given its ongoing buzz. Additionally, the Model 3 Highland, recently launched in Europe and China, might also find its way to the show.

Rod Alberts, the Executive Director of the Detroit Auto Show, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event. "We're thrilled to be able to bring auto show audiences a broad spectrum of brands and vehicles. As a dealer association-backed auto show, one of our main goals is to display all the brands that are sold in our region. This blend of bringing together corporate- and dealer-supported vehicles is trending at auto shows nationwide, and it's really become the catalyst for the future success of shows across the country. Dealers are still the closest conduit to the consumer," he remarked.
