Tesla continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle (EV) charging technology with the recent inauguration of the world's inaugural V4 Supercharger stall featuring contactless payment. The pioneering event took place at the Tesla Centre in Tottenham, marking a significant advancement in EV charging convenience.
The unveiling of the V4 Supercharger was accompanied by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting graced by Transport Minister Jessee Norman, as reported by DrivingElectric.
This cutting-edge V4 Supercharger, which made its European debut in March in Harderwijk, the Netherlands, introduces notable enhancements in appearance, cable length, and maximum charging speed. Notably, this new design boasts a remarkable maximum charging speed of 350 kW. But Tesla's innovation doesn't stop here—industry enthusiasts anticipate even swifter speeds once the company incorporates 800-volt architectures across its vehicle lineup.

What sets this V4 Supercharger apart is its integration of a touchless payment feature. Departing from the traditional method where Tesla Superchargers communicated directly with the vehicle's default payment method, this revolutionary stall introduces a fresh approach. A QR code, seamlessly accessible via the Tesla App, now guides users to initiate the payment process. Alternatively, a simple tap of their card on the contactless payment reader suffices to complete the transaction for their charging session.
The global proliferation of Tesla's V4 Superchargers is swiftly progressing, ushering in a new era of accessibility for EVs from diverse manufacturers. Tesla's initiative to open up its Superchargers to other automakers was initially trialed through a Pilot Program in Europe. This experiment eventually paved the way for the adoption of the NACS connector by other OEMs in the United States earlier this year.
Tesla's relentless pursuit of EV charging innovation, exemplified by the debut of the V4 Supercharger with contactless payment capabilities, is reshaping the landscape of electric mobility and accelerating the transition towards a sustainable transportation future.
