Tesla Recalls Model S and Model X Vehicles in China for Seat Belt and Camera Issues

by Lucky LI on Aug 08, 2023

Tesla has taken proactive measures by initiating a recall affecting 271 Model S and Model X vehicles in China. The recall is prompted by concerns related to seat belts and camera installations in the affected vehicles, underlining the company's commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

The recall specifically pertains to 234 Model S and Model X vehicles manufactured between February 5 and May 16, 2023. During the production or after-sale service of these vehicles, the first-row seat belts and pretensioners were disassembled and subsequently reinstalled. However, it has been identified that during reinstallation, the parts may not have been properly connected to the pretensioner anchors as per the required specifications. The Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has highlighted that this issue could compromise the functionality of seat belts in the event of a crash, posing a safety risk.

In response, Tesla has undertaken a comprehensive solution. The company will conduct thorough inspections of the affected vehicles' first-row seat belts and pretensioner anchor points, free of charge to the owners. If any deviations from the design specifications are identified, corrective measures will be promptly taken, including proper reinstallation or replacement of the entire seat belt assembly.

Moreover, the recall extends to 37 Model S and Model X vehicles manufactured between January 17 and July 11, 2023. These vehicles have been found to have camera installation issues related to pitch angle design requirements. Such irregularities can potentially impact the proper functioning of active safety features and driver alerts, thereby compromising safety.

Tesla's response to this concern involves conducting meticulous checks on the front view camera's pitch angle, with the aim of aligning it with the required specifications. These corrective measures will be conducted at zero cost to the owners, reinforcing Tesla's commitment to ensuring vehicle safety.

It's worth noting that while Gigafactory Shanghai currently produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, the affected Model S and Model X vehicles were imported from the Fremont Factory. Despite this, Tesla China continues to uphold the highest standards of safety for its customers. With Tesla's robust approach to addressing these issues, the company reaffirms its dedication to maintaining the safety and reliability of its vehicles on the road.
